Interview with Lizzie from “Suzy Q Homemaker”
“Suzy Q Homemaker”

The blog was intended to document our lives as an attachment parenting family with posts about everything from breastfeeding to knitting. It has since expanded into a shopping and crafting blog in addition to a place where I can share stories of my daily adventures–and it is an adventure being the mother of four boys!

I’ve always been a journaling-type, having started a secret diary when I was in the fifth grade. When websites like livejournal started, I began online journaling. When my third son was born, I sprouted wings and started my own blog.

I normally blog about my kids, pets, crafting, and the things that go on in our lives. With six people and three cats, there are always things to write about!

I have a lot of favorites, so it’s hard to narrow it down. I love reading craft blogs like Angry Chicken, Soule Mama, and Skip to My Lou. A lot of my friends are bloggers, so I read their blogs, too: Crazy Dumbsaint of the Mind, Momdot, and I Think, I Tink, I Knit, just to name a few.

My best blogging advice would have to be “blog what you love.” Don’t get caught up in numbers and what your blog isn’t doing for you. If you write from the heart, people will read.

When visitors leave comments, I usually write back in a personal email. It’s hard to know whether or not they come back to read comment replies, but I do sometimes reply in comments.

Absolutely! My dad is one of my most devoted readers, and I have several friends from church who read my blog.

I visit several forums: Momdot Bloggers, Mothering, and every now and then I’ll read the forums on Hyenacart and Diaperswappers.

I try to blog every day. My little blogging nook is an old-fashioned typewriter desk where my laptop is set up to look out the front window. I have an excellent view of my new bird feeders and the pond.

Um. I don’t know! I’ve never timed myself, but I would guess that I spend collectively about as much time as I would spend at a part time job.

No, not really.

I first heard about blogging about five years ago. Don’t remember when or where, but it certainly has been a while!

Gosh, I don’t know. I think it must have been one of the twenty-something craft blogs I’m subscribed to.

Life, music, my kids, and my husband.

I am a Creative Memories consultant, so I do have a personal website where my customers can order their scrapbooking supplies online.

Through blogging, I have learned more about myself and the things I believe in. It has helped me realize how passionate I am about childbirth, breastfeeding, and has helped me develop my skills as a homemaker. Reading other mom blogs is often challenging if they differ in parenting styles, but it is also encouraging because it allows me to keep my mind open to other points of view. What works for you may not work for someone else and vice versa.
