In addition to teaching and parenting, I have been a freelance writer for a couple of years now, and the one piece that was missing for me was the freedom to choose my topics and write whatever I want! “This Mom Loves” is my outlet. Although I would love to say that it’s just for me, I have to be honest and admit that having an audience is one of the most rewarding parts of the blog.

I have officially been a blogger since January 2010.

Although it has “Mom” in the title, I blog about other topics in addition to parenting, like shopping, entertainment (books, movies) and education, but I find that most of the decisions I make now about my time and money are affected by my role as a mom, so that seeps in to most of my material! I like to think of my blog like a mini-magazine, only I’m the boss and I’m allowed to personalize every single article!

Well, I still am a newbie, but the best advice I’ve received is to get organized, write about something you love so the post ideas will keep flowing, and don’t obsess about statistics like visitors or comment numbers. I haven’t fully accepted that one yet!

I LOVE getting comments. I don’t know if it’s the same for bloggers with huge amounts of traffic, but I will admit that I check for comments (obsessively) often, and I read every one, and reply whenever appropriate. Comments are the lifeline of active blogs.

I am a full-time Grade 3 teacher, so my time is limited! I post about three times a week, but I try to write 4 or 5 each week to keep ahead of myself. I spend my lunchtimes, evenings and weekends reading other blogs and writing my own.

In terms of writing, I am inspired by the examples I see around me on the web and in print media. My topics are inspired by purchases, places, people…anything/anyone that I believe other moms could benefit from reading about. I keep things fairly positive.
